Be sure you have set your thermostat to the temperature you want the room to maintain.
Most thermostats can control your cooling or heating with some type of switch on the side, top, or bottom of the thermostat. Make sure it is in the mode you want to run. If it is a newer electronic thermostat, they refer to it as the system switch.
Furnaces and air conditioners must have some type of power shut off so the unit can be serviced. On many furnaces, there is nothing other than a light switch that shuts the unit down. Look for a wall switch that seems not to control anything in the mechanical room. The outdoor air conditioning unit has a disconnect close to its location that has fuses (not recommended to access unless you are comfortable with electricity). You can check to see if the breaker has tripped to the off position in your home's breaker panel.
Furnaces and air conditioners must have proper airflow to continue to operate. If your unit seems to be running but you have no airflow at the registers, check your filter for cleanliness.
If, for some reason, the doors (covers) of the furnace become loose, the safety switch in the furnace will keep the unit from coming on.
